Abstract

The purpose of this study was to evaluate removal of resin remnant with Nd:YAG laser after debonding.
Ninety extracted human premolar were used. (Controlled group: 10 teeth, Experimental group: 10 teeth) Experimental group was divided into eight groups according to the frequency and Watt of laser.
The change of intrapulpal temperature was monitored during removal of resin remnant with Nd:YAG laser. After clean-up procedure, the enamel surfaces of randomly selected teeth from each groups were examined under optical stereo microscope.
The findings of this study were as follows:
1. In the experimental group, the change of intrapulpal temperature was significantly higher than that of controlled group.(P≶0.01)
2. The higher Walt of Nd:YAG laser, the higher the change of intrapulpal temperature.
3. The surface of controlled group showed no enamel damage clinically. The surface of teeth from experimental group( 10Hz 2.5W, 10Hz 30W) showed no resin remnant but the demarcated crater of the laser irradiated surface. The other group of experimental group showed the carbonized resin remnant and tooth surface.
